Bristol’s Best Burgers

The past 12 months have seen an influx of burger joints set up shop in Bristol, to the point where it seemed like you couldn’t walk 5 paces in the centre of town without walking into an A Board shouting about the superior meat patties (Aberdeen Angus! 30 day aged! Fillet! – wait, why would you use fillet for a burger, you crazyperson?), toppings (All the cheese! Pulled Pork! 3 more burgers!  Monster Munch!) and the continuation of that ever-contentious issue: sesame vs. brioche buns.

Now that the MeatWave™ has calmed somewhat, I feel like I can round up some of the better burger offerings out there. I hasten to add that most of these places also offer some excellent veggie options, and I’ll point out the best options as I go, but do check their menus for specific vegetarian/dairy free/GF options.

Grab a pen, it’s about to get tasty…

Bristol Beer Week: A Debrief

Bristol Beer Week 2014 Factoberfest

Well, we survived. Through the beer festivals, the ridiculously strong collaboration brews, the steins of Pilsner at Oktoberfest, and the beer matching dinners. Well done, everybody.

Only in its second year, and Bristol Beer Week has already cemented itself as one of the flagship food and drink events in Bristol’s calendar. The support this year was overwhelming, both in terms of the number of venues and breweries participating, but also the amount of people attending the events.

King Street was a veritable sea of blue and yellow t-shirts throughout the week, which warmed my cockles no end (or that could have been the 11% Buxton Yellowbelly, who knows). Continue reading Bristol Beer Week: A Debrief

Where to get your Meat Fix in Bristol

My last relationship was with a vegan. Now, I’m always happy to try new things and experiment with my cooking, so for the most part it didn’t bother me that most of my recipes had to omit any meat, eggs or dairy. I quite relished the challenge, in fact.

However, once I found myself single again, I seemed to gravitate towards the meatier, greasier and downright dirtier end of every menu I perused. Luckily, there has recently been an influx of fantastic meat eateries to Bristol, so naturally I had to try them all. And this is what I thought. Shonette Laffy

Give yourself a pat on the back and a handshake; we’re over the hump of early January, and now into the season of wassails, Chinese New Year, Burn’s Night and Valentine’s Day.

2014 is moving on at pace; there are already Creme Eggs in the shops for chrissakes. But before we start thinking about things as far away as Easter, let us instead focus on the exciting happenings in the Bristol food scene this month… Continue reading Bristol Food & Drink – February 2014

Get it in your Diary: Key dates for Bristol’s Beer Drinkers

As detailed in my last post, Bristol has definitely upped its game in the past 12 months in terms of its beer offerings.

However, in addition to the many bars you can now choose from to educate yourself in all things ale and beer related (my original bar list is Here) there are also plenty of events coming up in the next few weeks to further cement your love of all beverages borne of the barley and hops. Here is my selection of the ones to make a note of. Continue reading Get it in your Diary: Key dates for Bristol’s Beer Drinkers
