Bristol Food & Drink: September

As ease ourselves out of a sweaty summer, I’m sure most of you are looking forward to cosy season, although I’m hoping we have a few more beer garden evenings left!

News

You’ve only got a couple of months to visit the Bristol institution that is Tarr’s Ice Cream in Brislington before they close their doors for good after over 200 years in business.

Head along to a couple of wholesome community events this month – first up is the 50th anniversary of Windmill Hill City Farm in Bedminster, which will have workshops, crafts, live music, bars and lots more to enjoy.

Next up is the BS3 Jammin’ Community Harvest in Southville on the weekend of 19th – 20th, which will have apple pressing, cooking, preserving and composting demos, plus arts and crafts. Followed by a Harvest Festival at Wraxall Vineyard on 26th & 27th.

Festivals & celebrations

It’s a bonanza of food and drink festivals this month to see out summer with a bang!

First up on the weekend of 4th-6th Sept, EAT Bedminster returns to East Street on the Sunday, and Wing Fest is back in town, but this time at its new home at The Prospect Building in St Phillips. You can expect the usual lineup of food traders fighting it out to serve up the best wings, plus live music and some eating challenges.

Next up from 11th -18th is Bristol Cider Week, which kicks off a week of tastings, tours and tap takeovers with a cider-fuelled boat party!

There’s also Bristol Coffee Festival on Sat 12th, plus The South Glos Food & Drink Festival across the same weekend at Bristol and Bath Science Park.

Bristol Cocktail Weekend is back from 24th – 27th September – make sure to nab a wristband to get £7 cocktails!

For those working in the food and drink industry, particularly suppliers, FŌDA Festival returns to Arnolfini from 26th – 27th September for panel discussions, workshops and networking.

It’s Oktoberfest season, and there are several celebrations you can book, from a big party at The Prospect Building on Sat 26th to an all dayer at the Lost and Grounded brewery in Brislington on 19th & 20th.

Award-winning Indian restaurant Nutmeg in Clifton is celebrating its 10th birthday with special celebrations throughout September. From Fri 25th – Sun 27th September, they’re offering a two-course lunch for just £10, and they’re also giving away a pair of tickets to their invite-only birthday party – you can enter here.

There are some real goodies opening over the next few weeks!

Recently opened are Red Tiger’s Malaysian Restaurant on St Georges Road in Hotwells, and Grain Grape café bar on Sandy Park Road in Brislington. Brewhouse Bar + Kitchen on Cotham Hill has now rebranded as The Merchant of Cotham.

Coming very soon are Los Dos Gringos Colombian cafe on Church Road in Redfield, Bad Tony’s dive bar on St Nicholas Street, and DOMUS Brazilian steakhouse on Bathurst Basin in Redcliffe.

A little longer to wait are Feather on Whiteladies Road, Green Street Sandwiches near Temple Meads, and Super Nature bar and gig venue on Cheltenham Road.
