Bristol Food & Drink: March

Welcome to March – let’s hope that it’s a drier month than February, or January! I’m still very much in the hearty food and cosy corners vibe, but more than ready to enjoy some blue skies

Read on to get tempted by special dinners, wine festivals, Mother’s Day events and more…

First up, congratulations to the Bristol bars who made it into the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list: Filthy XIII (#18) and The Milk Thistle (#40). The brilliant Hideout in Bath also made it to #25.

A new night market is coming to Paintworks! Chow Down Fridays launches on 5 April with three street food traders (Soul Fries, Urban Eatz and Bo Bom Gelato), DJs and drinks from Moor Beer, Psychopomp and Counter Culture. The market runs from 5-9pm and is free, but if you nab a ticket you’ll get a taster plate from each trader and a drink from the bar.

Exciting news if you’re a homebody – you can now buy frozen Bertha’s Pizza to cook and enjoy at home! Pick them up from any of the following shops: Tout’s Langford, Five Acre Farm Shop, Corks of North Street, Papadeli, Brockley Stores or The Public Market.

Espensen Spirit are releasing a limited edition Hot Cross Bun Liqueur for Easter, if you want to complete your seasonal collection! (I’m still working my way through their Christmas pudding vodka and chocolate orange gin).

You’ve probably seen that there’s now a Bristol Beer Bike, which can accomodate6-12 guests on a trip around the city, and costs £450 for one hour, including all-you-can-drink beer. The thought terrifies me, but each to their own!

Congratulations to Noah’s in Cumberland Basin for being named the 3rd best in the country at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2024. I’ve eaten there a couple of times now and can confirm – absolutely banging fish and chips (make sure you also order the curry sauce), and their other seafood dishes are superb too. Don’t miss their Lock Keeper’s Lunch deal: fish, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce served with a mug of tea, available six days a week. They also do some good pre-match deals if you’re on your way to Ashton Gate for a game of rugby or football.

Dog Day Afternoon is back at Lost and Grounded’s brewery on Sat 16th, with dog contests and a chance for your pet to star on their new beer can design! Food will be provided by Fat Dad’s Kitchen and of course you’ll be able to drink your way through L&G’s beer range at the bar. Lost and Grounded will also have a pop-up from Tonkotsu on Sunday 3rd, and their International Women’s Day Beer Launch at the brewery on Friday 8th, with food and DJs.
