I’m back after a brief summer hiatus, to tell you about all the delicious things happening this month and distract you from week #485 of this heatwave.
It’s a very cider-y month with Bristol Cider Week and a few festivals,
News
Let’s start with a sweet treat – there’s an ice cream bike in town! Little Knuckles have been making waves south of the river with their ice creams and subscription service, based out of Sonny Stores in Southville. Their bike will be parked up outside St Nicholas Market from Wednesday to Saturday until September.
Nine Bristol pubs have made it into The Telegraph’s list of The Best Pubs in the UK, and I wholeheartedly agree with the list, which includes The Kings Head in Redcliffe, The Orchard and The Nova Scotia in the harbour, The Barley Mow in St Phillips and The Highbury Vaults on St Michaels Hill – all of those would make it into my own personal Top 10 pubs (I haven’t written that – yet – but I have written a list of underrated Bristol pubs if you want to argue with me about that).
Bristol Cathedral have launched a new afternoon tea with Pinkmans in their cafe, which you can now book in a combined ticket with a tour!
Congratulations to Wangs in Montpelier for being named the best restaurant in the South West in the Good Food Guide! If you haven’t been already, make sure you do, and try the chilli wontons, the turnip cake and their spicy margarita.
Festivals & celebrations
Bristol Cider Week returns from 7th – 15th August, with a programme of events including tours, tastings and tap takeovers. Keep an eye to their socials for more info! As part of the week’s celebrations, you can enjoy dozens of ciders at Cider Salon on Saturday 15th.
If you’re not done with cider after all of that, the Chequers in Hanham is hosting their Cider Festival on Saturday 22nd, and the Keynsham Cricket Club Beer and Cider Festival is on Sunday 30th.
If you’re a fan of Mexican food and shenanigans, nab a ticket for Taco & Tequila at Sawmills on Sat 29th, which will feature street food, tequila, mariachis, Mexican wrestling, and even piñata battles.
And, ending on a high, the East Bristol Brewery Trail is back for the bank holiday weekend Sat 29th – Sun 30th, with seven breweries opening their doors, serving special beers, hosting live music and street food.
