Bristol Food & Drink: June 2024

Welcome to my favourite month, and not just because it’s my birthday month (cheap plug) but also because it’s usually the best for reliable beer garden days and barbecues.

There’s plenty to get your teeth into this month, from big beer festivals to a bunch of new restaurant and bar openings. Scroll on down to find out more…

News

Celebrate the launch of the latest EatDrink 24/7 guide on 26th June with an evening of drinks and street food at the Left Handed Giant brewery taproom in St Phillips. Your £10 ticket includes a copy of the guide, a complimentary beer and canapés. There will also be a chance to try the new birria ramen collab between Gourmet Warriors and Tomo No Ramen.

Get yourself down to Haymarket Walk next to the Bearpit to visit the food businesses there before they close due to the area being redeveloped – Mayflower (last service 26th June) have said that they’ll announce their new location shortly, however this could be your last chance to visit the wondeful Sky Kong Kong (last service 22nd June) and Flow (last service 1st June).

It really is a festival bonanza this month, kicking off with a Gin Festival at riverside bar Beeses on Satursay 1st June – entry is free and there will be live music, food and of course a range of gins available all day. They’re also hosting a Drink Like A King Party on Saturday 15th in collaboration with Bristol Beer Factory.

The following weekend on Sat 15th sees the first Vegan Fest of the year at Left Handed Giant’s taproom in St Phillips (the next one is in September), or wine fans should head to Averys Summer of Wine event at Bristol Beacon to sample wines from across the world.

Bedminster Beer Trail is also returning from 14th – 16th June, with lots of independent pubs, bars and breweries taking part and hundreds of beers to try!

The end of the month is a West Country scrumpy, perry and everything in between with Bristol Cider Week (26-29th) with a Midsummer Cider Fiesta at Wild West Cider on 27th, and the epic Cider Salon on Sat 29th at Trinity in Old Market.

You haven’t got long to wait until the biggest restaurant from Bristol-based chain The Lounges opens on the harbourside (in what was Pitcher & Piano) – the refurbishment for Ritorno Lounge is nearly done and they aim to open their doors in July.

Coming later this summer are two popular chains – Six By Nico will open in the former Carluccio’s in Quakers Friars, and Rosa’s Thai will open on Baldwin Street. Box Hall is still in development, with an expected opening date of late summer.
