What a false start of a summer huh? All rain and wind – when am I supposed to start enjoying pub gardens and frozen Pina Coladas?
Whatever the weather decides this month. there’s plenty to get excited about, from grand feasts to wine tastings, night markets and brewery trails.
News
Congratulations to the five Bristol restaurants which made it into the 100 Best Restaurants list from The Good Food Guide: BANK in Totterdown, Caper & Cure on Stokes Croft, littlefrench in Westbury Park, Little Hollows in Redland, and Sonny Stores in Southville.
One of my favourite bits of news this month was that 6 O’clock Gin have purchased the Glassboat on Welsh Back and will be turning it a shop, bar and event space. We’ve got a cider boat, a nightclub boat and a burger boat, now we’re getting the gin boat Bristol deserves!
A couple of exciting dining events at Kitchen by KASK this month, starting with the brilliant Tomo No Ramen who are taking over the kitchen from Thursday to Sunday until 19th August (exluding Sat 5th). Ah-Ma’s Dumplings are doing a one-night supper club there on Wednesday 16th, followed by Woei’s Malaysian supper club on 23rd. You can book ticket for any of these delicious pop-ups here.
It’s a good month to be a beer lover in Bristol (isn’t it always?), with the East Bristol Brewery Trail back on the August bank holiday weekend (26th – 27th), the same weekend as the Redcliffe Beer Festival (with The Kings Head, Bridge Inn, Cornubia & Seven Stars all taking part).
She Drinks Beer is back at The Good Measure on Tuesday 8th August, and Good Chemistry are doing a tap takeover at Tobacco Factory for their Food Truck Friday on 4th.
Oh and keep your eyes peeled for some great Oktoberfest events coming to Bristol next month, including these two from Lost & Grounded Brewers and Wiper and True.
Some of Bristol’s top chefs have teamed up for an unconventional fundraising night. Anti-Banquet will take place at Ashton Gate Stadium on 5th October. Businesses will be invited to buy a table to host team members who don’t usually go to corporate events, or to donate their table to a charity or deserving group. The management from the sponsoring companies will then be invited to cook in the kitchen and run the front of house for the event.
Oh and want some flexibility with your cocktails? The Old Bookshop in Bedminster are launching at ‘Build Your own Old Fashioned’ cocktail menu this month – yum!
Festivals and celebrations
It’s not just about the Balloon Fiesta this month, there are lots of other events to be excited about!
St Nick’s Night Market is back for its final event of the summer on Friday 4th, with food stalls, live music and entertainment.
Cider Salon returns on Saturday 5th at Trinity Centre, with 60 speciality ciders available from 20 producers. There are also a few fringe events taking place earlier in the week.
Like ice cream? Ben and Jerry’s Sundaes in the City Festival takes place in the harbourside ampitheatre on Sat 5th, with music from Sister Sledge and others, plus unlimited ice cream all day! Tickets are a tenner, and the event is for over 18s only.
Take a pew outside The Ostrich in the harbour on Baloon Fiesta weekend to see if you can spot any balloons overhead while enjoying their Seafood Festival, with special dishes throughout the day.
Coming up in September is the return of the free Bristol Vegan Fayre on 2nd and 3rd, followed by Bristol Wing Fest from 8th – 10th, Bristol Coffee Festival on 9th, and then the first ever Bristol Craft Brew Festival on 22nd and 23rd September.
