The sunshine has arrived, along with lots of fun excuses to spend time outdoors, from beer festivals to food tours. As ever there are also a bunch of new places for you to visit, including a few vegan joints and a couple of exciting newbies at Wapping Wharf.

News
First up, congratulations is in order for Lost & Grounded Brewers, who won gold at the Beer World Cup for their excellent Keller Pils – very much deserved! As ever, they’re doing weekend pop-ups at their brewery tap room in Brislington, featuring food, DJs and tasty beers. They also host brewery tours at 3pm every Saturday.
The first ever Bristol Cocktail Weekend has been announced for the end of September (28th September – Ist October, to be precise), and will feature special drinks and events at over 20 bars across the city. Wristbands are now sale for £12, which entitles you to a guidebook to the venues particpating, a welcome drink and then access to the signature cocktails at each venue over the weekend.
Bristol bakery chain Parsons Bakery have opened a second pizza kitchen in Henleaze, following the success of the pizza kitchen at their Bedminster bakery. Their 14 inch pizzas are only £10 and can be ordered to collect from either shop, or ordered via Deliveroo, Uber Eats or Just Eat.
The brilliant Mazi Project are continuining their work fighting food inequality in the city, delivering fresh and nutritious meals to disadvantaged young people in Bristol. You can support their work by ordering a recipe box (one is donated for every one you buy to enjoy yourself, June’s box is put together by Elly Pear) or donate to their fundraiser for World Hunger Week.
Festivals and celebrations
There’s plenty to things to celebrate this month, starting with with We Are Beer Week (6th-11th June) events in the lead up to ‘all-day beer buffet’ Bristol Craft Beer Festival on 9th and 10th June (tickets are still available – Saturday is nearly sold out though!). The citywide beer takeover features evenrs such as She Drinks Beer at The Good Measure, a Dugges tap takeover at Small Bar, a Verdant takeover at The Old Bookshop and a Mills Brewing bottle share at The Kings Head. See the full list of events here.
On the same weekend, you can also head along to the Bitton Beer Bash, which takes places on the platform of the old Bitton station run by Acon Valley Railway, with over 25 beers available – you can also enjoy your drinks on board one of their heritage diesel services which will be running on the day!
If cider is more your vibe, Thatchers will be giving away £1 pints at Steam in Clifton (next to Clifton Down station) on 7th June. Or wine lovers should get themselves over to Bristol Beacon on Saturday 17th for Avery’s Summer of Wine, featuring over 100 wines to try for the bargain price of £30 – I went last year and it was abslutely brilliant! You book in for the afternoon or evening session.
Finally, one of my Bristol favourite The Strawberry Thief celebrates its 7th birthday this month, with festivities planned from Tue 27th until Sat 1st. Head long for treats including a selection of in-house & Belgian special dishes, happy hour with 20% off all drinks from Tuesday to Thursday between 4 & 6pm, sharing bottles of Delirium Tremens & barrel aged Black, and custom-made charcuterie made with Belgian beers.
